Viva Racing has added a lightly raced gelding to the stable with the recent purchase of Volunteer.

The four-year-old has competed at Brisbane Metropolitan level in all six career starts to date. He was a solid winner at Doomben last month and had recorded two city placings prior to his win.

Volunteer is an extremely well-bred gelding, being a full brother to multiple Group 3 winner Dainty Tess.

He has taken a little time to develop physically and mentally, however has now furnished into a good-looking gelding with a bright future ahead.

Volunteer will be trained by Paul Shailer at Port Macquarie. Paul has recently taken out his full trainer’s licensee in Australia after a successful stint as head trainer in NZ and more recently Chris Waller’s foreman for over 10 years.

The stable commenced in September this year and has had 11 runners to race with four winners and four placings at an outstanding strikerate.

Next preparation Volunteer will work through the grades in his first few starts prior to targeting Highway Races in Sydney for Country horses only worth $100,000.

Long term target will be the Country Classic ($130,000 race) over 2000 meters in late 2022.

Volunteer presents a great opportunity to jump into a well bred lightly raced gelding with plenty of wins ahead of him.
