Ocean Gate in foal to Shamus Award
Viva Racing is delighted to have purchased Ocean Gate, a lovely mare in foal to quality sire Shamus Award, who sired his 6th Group One winner earlier this year.
Ocean's Gate is a beautiful mare. She is tall with good length, she’s correct and is a lovely roomy mare. It is easy to see why she produced such a lovely Filly in OCEANS OF ENERGY as her first foal. She is a lovely mare who we are pleased to have in our broodmare collection.
Viva Racing purchased Ocean’s of Energy (By Dundeel out of Ocean Gate) as a yearling and we have an extremely high opinion of the filly. From only 12 career starts to date she is a multiple City winner and has competed in black type races in 6 of her last 8 starts. Her last preparation was an unlucky one with bad gates, no luck in running and track conditions preventing her from securing black type. She is a filly at her best between 1400 – 1800 meters and we believe that she is capable of earning black type in the future.

SHAMUS AWARD is the best sire son of champion stallion SNITZEL.
This is a very smart time to breed to or buy a mare in foal to SHAMUS AWARD when you look at the recent books he covered. WFA stars like DUAIS, INCENTIVISE, MR QUICKIE established SHAMUS AWARD as an elite stallion and with that in 2021 he served a huge book of 216 mares at $33,000 which was the highest fee he had stood for at the time.
In 2022 he went to an $80,000 fee and while he came back in number he got easily the best quality mares he has every seen so with this big number of rising 2YO’s followed by a good bunch of foals out of the best mares he has covered ahead of us it could be the perfect time to be selling a yearling off the back of these young horses racing as 2 & 3YO’s.
Widden Stud have partnered with us again and secured a 25% share in Ocean Gate.
Shares are $5,250 per 5% $10,500 per 10% or $21,000 per 20% inclusive of purchase price and all related costs until 1 September 2024.
